A Goal Scored

The Prime Minister has done some tough talking quiet rarely and this time the person at the receiving end is Jaswant Singh. The former external affairs minister finds himself in a tight corner today and credits due to Manmohan.

Last time when Advani labelled Manmohan the weakest prime minister Manmohan's response pulled down advani's track record in the home ministry and silenced him. This time around Jaswant's aims to sensationalize his book has worked, but he is not able to get away with it. The PMO's decision not to grant an appointment to him and suggesting him to disclose the name of the mole in public has taken Jaswant by surprise really.

He tried to wiggle out again by his letter to the PM which the PMO released in the papers and pushed him back further. Next time the PMO might even return the letter without receiving it. The idea is to force Jaswant to reveal the name himself in public. Even when he does that he is not going to be out of trouble.

Last week the govt also pushed the left to a corner in the nuclear bill issue. Pranab's message that if there is a sense of motion then "Iam not in the government and the government will not be there. It will be equivalent to a No-Confidence Motion" pushed the left a step back. Now they only speak up saying we need to discuss but they have learnt that there pressure tactics wont work.

For once the govt has stood up straight and has done some powerful talking. If they dont continue in this vein then the left will take advantage of the pro-poor policies and the BJP would grab the media space and the govt will be in the hiding. Let this be a good beginning.

A Dance

Friday the 14th was a day for a joyous outing for our team. We went to a resort nearby. Had some fun frolic and all. We were some 15o ppl around. There were some games arranged by an event organizer (an outsider).

There was this peculiar special dance show arranged, a small programme. Two people very small in height tied themselves to each other danced and before our eyes. Since we couldn't see the dance clearly we approached the dance floor to watch what was happening. There were two dancers connected to each other did I say. Nah It was just a single person. It was evident as soon as we saw the legs of the 2 people, one pair of it were hands.

This guy has bent himself such a way that he stands on his legs and his hands seem like legs for the other person. The face was masked so that we dont recognize the single person inside it. The program was not much about dance. Obviously we know a person in this pose cannot afford to move his limbs even normally.

The progam was all about the hardwork this guy has put into get that posture. wow should we say, or rather it was bad on us. We were expected to enjoy the pain inflicted on him. For the few pennies we could spend we had before our eyes a guy troubling himself. We were like people who would watch in street corners people getting into fire or beating themselves up.

The guy's pain was expected to entertain us. It was a hard slap in my face that I couldn't react to it. But I feel grateful that none of us discussed of the show after it was over. And today Iam writing about it because I lost my sleep over it. With all this hardwork this guy could have done any other thing in his life. Whatever he has chosen to do was saying aloud that we the society love to see others in pain.
