Weakness in the face of Terror

Terror has been taking a toll on our country for so long now. The last 4 years of UPA rule espescially has seen a situation where terrorists could blow up any place any time. The time gap just seems to be where terrorists are taking rest and not a time when attacks are stopped by our intelligence and security agencies. Strange.

Adversity should be met by strength instead of conciliatory words like "Our communal harmony will not be disturbed." What is there to be disturbed anyway. Given all faults of Bush, there is still one positive. There has been no attack on the US after 9/11. They retaliated strongly. London has ensured safety after the train bombings,well what was it 7/7. Well if we list down dates like this for India it would be all dates on the calendar. Afer the liquid bombs attempt in flights all airports in the world have beefed up security, except perhaps India. When you travel through India, Europe and USA you will see the degree and level of security going up exponentially.

We have shown weakness against terror. We have said we need to maintain friendship with Pak, Bangladesh, Nepal, Bhutan whatever and what not. Why dont we show strength and retaliate. We never accept that Indians could be terrorists too. Obviously there are insiders involved in all the attacks. But we dont want to take some one in and interrogate, lest we make their religion feel bad. And if an attack happens in a BJP ruled state the central government retaliates, Staes should use Central inputs and secure against terror. When it happens in a Congress ruled state, then it is a lapse in security as the intelligence information could not be translated into action immediately. After all this much of politicising our PM says dont politicize terror.

Moreover, dont ever say indian organizations or indian muslims are involved or are the perpetrators lest we disturb our communal harmony. We have a billion people and can afford to kill a million, but not lose our muslim votes. Are we living up to the principle that many criminals can escape but never a good person should be punished. What about the good innocent people who die in these terror attacks. A nation should be strong enough to ensure no good person gets punished and no criminal roams free.

A nation should provide prosperity and security. While we have been going all ga-ga about our prosperity in recent times, our security has been a laughing stock. Its all good to interact with naxals, sachar committee to recommend better measures for muslims etc., We need to make all people feel part of the mainstream society, but we should also show the strength to take on crime and terror with no stone left unturned. Until that starts happening, India cannot call itself a superpower or a superpower in making.
