Da Vinci Code

The Protests against Da Vinci Code movie has begun here and our secular government at the centre has immediately responded saying it will review the movie and decide. I haven’t heard much about the banning of the movie even in the western nations. Sounds emanate from a very few like the Philippines. And the greatest twist to the story came when Islamic clerics joined the Christian Bishops in the protest.

Is it all about the Bloodline of Christ that these guys are protesting? If so I don’t see any reason for the clerics to join. Rather it hits at the foundation of these man made religions. It glorifies the paganism that existed earlier. It speaks about the treatment of women as the supreme godly form in the pagan religions that preceded Christianity.

This is threat to Christianity and Islam where Talaq still favors men. In Hinduism I can say with pride that we treat women as supreme forms of godliness. We believe that we need to worship the goddess first before worshipping the god. We believe the supreme form of godliness is a fusion of the male and female personalities, Arthanareeswarar.

But these man made religions have relegated women as symbols of greed with all stories of the Adam’s apple. The Hindu culture treats women with protectionism while the western culture treats them with chauvinism. And these foundations will be questioned. I know the film won’t discuss all these things in detail. The book also left many things discontinued. This film is all about murder, investigation and all that. The discussions on religion would be very minimal. But still we want to prevent this from happening. I have never been a supporter of this attitude. Be it shiv sena’s protests or Christian organization’s protests. On the one hand we are seeking Right to Information and on the other we are seeking more censorship.

May be if the women organizations wake up and seek to release this film everywhere, then what would happen. Whose side will the government decide upon? Now which Vote Bank is Bigger!!!

India Ka Dil

India now a global market with the foreign investors coming in and pouring out of their pockets. But what do they use to market here. One of the ads that i fell upon yesterday was of Sansui. "Japanese Technology, Indian Heart". What does that mean. Indians are good at heart. Or rather not good at Technology. And another "India ka Dil, India ka A/C". Now why is the indian heart so precious.

Why should a marketer target the emotions of the consumers. Why should a foreigner be cladded in indian garments to make us feel proud. The poking at the indian heart doesnt seem appealing to me, but rather irritating. Am I in need of a foreigner to highlight my glory, accept and appreciate the kindness of my heart, of the greatness of my traditions. Somehow the world still beleives indians can be deceived into these things. May be they have taken a cue from our politicians who appeal to the heart and not to the brains. Do not allow a person to think seems to be the mantra of the day. Not a good projection for a society which says it has 300 million educated youth contributing to its GDP and USP.
